Costa and Dirt Girl visited Santa Teresa to help plant the community garden. The trees are all citrus fruit trees – orange, mandarin and lemon – and the garden has been planted in the middle for the community use. Irrigation has been put in place to keep the trees watered and growing. This was funded by whole community and planted by community children. Heimo from Keep Australia Beautiful Council NT made a speech and handed out a few awards. A tasty “bush wok” health food cooking experience was put on for the Santa Teresa Youth. Tammy from G&T Retyred Craft Alice Springs showed her innovative projects using “recycled” and “upcycled” tyres.
The Community Clean Up is an education program about litter control, recycling and workshops. It takes place inside classrooms for students and outside the classroom for residents. This is part of the Territory Tidy Towns program.
What a fantastic effort by the community! Thank you to all those involved!
