Winners of the prestigious Keep Australia Beautiful 2022 Sustainable Communities Tidy Towns Awards will be announced at an event hosted by 2021 Australian Sustainable Communities Tidy Towns Overall winner, Hastings on Saturday 30 July.
The beautiful community of Ltyentye Apurte (Santa Teresa) will be representing the Northern Territory on the big stage, after taking out the 2021 Territory Tidy Towns Awards.
These annual awards recognise projects that reduce litter, minimise waste, encourage recycling, promote heritage and culture, habitat, celebrate community spirit, sustainability and many other environmental endeavours.
“Hastings taking out the top honour for the 2021 KAB, Sustainable Communities Tidy Towns National Award, was truly a great honour for our Town. This award recognises the strength, pride, commitment and dedication of our community and its volunteers. To be recognised on the National Stage is awesome, we feel so proud.” Deputy Mayor Councillor Lisa Dixon said.
Val Southam, Chief Executive Officer KAB, sees the awards program as a wonderful opportunity for all entrants to reflect on their achievements and work over the year.
“The awards, running nationally since 1990, have evolved to encompass projects and initiatives with a focus on environmental sustainability and resource management to reflect a growing awareness of the importance of community- led environmental action.” added Ms Southam.
In addition to a healthy dose of competition, the Australian Sustainable Communities Tidy Towns awards bring together community leaders, environmental champions, young legends and waste warriors from every corner of our great country to share experiences, learn from and inspire each other.
