2019 Senior’s Beautiful Garden Competition

Celebrating Senior’s dirty hobbies as NT Senior’s Month starts to draw to a close in the Territory.

Keep Australia Beautiful Council NT has announced its Top End 2019 Senior’s Garden Competition award winners on 26 August 2019, at a special Senior’s Month free luncheon event, in recognition and acknowledgment for their efforts.

Ngaree Ah Kit MLA presented Senior Territorian recipients with award certificates, in recognition and acknowledgment of the gardening and water conservation efforts by seniors participating in the 2019 Senior’s Beautiful Garden Competition.

KABC(NT) Chief Executive, Heimo Schober, said a large number of senior Territorians really “dig gardening” and that beautiful gardens were of immense benefit to the Territory and Territorians.

“Our beautiful nurtured seniors’ gardens generate a lot of love among family, friends and neighbours. They also achieve great environment and social benefits within our communities and to the enjoyment of our native fauna,” Mr Schober said.

“With senior Territorians taking great pride and joy in their gardens, it’s about time we start giving recognition and acknowledgement for their efforts. Our 2019 competition winners plus commended gardeners should all be extremely proud of their garden’s contribution to beautifying our cities.

“From little things big things grow and with the seed fairy’s help our Senior’s Beautiful Garden Competition planned for next year will grow to stand taller.

“To each and every active gardener in the Territory doing their bit to make our home a beautiful and better place – thank you and keep up the great work.”

The main award categories for this year were best ‘Large’, ‘Small’ and ‘Rural’ gardens plus special recognition for Water Smart Gardens.

Judging criteria included garden, design, intent, maintenance and home safety.
